FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Should I buy a Mini or Maxi scooter?

Mini Micro or Maxi Micro Scooter – Which One Is Right For You
  • Mini Micro Scooters are generally better for younger children, aged 2 to 5 years
  • Maxi Micro Scooters are better for older children from 5 years and up
  • Some children may prefer to opt for a Maxi at a younger age. Just be aware that Maxi Micro scooters are heavier than Mini Micro’s and can make them harder to maneuver for younger children.

Deciding on which scooter is right for your child is important. Important for you and for them so we’ve compiled a guide to help make the decision between the two scooters as easy as pie (or second slice of pie).

MINI MICRO SCOOTERS

  • For ages 2-5 years
  • Lightweight frame makes it perfect for younger children to lift and carry over kerbs
  • Best for younger children or those new to scooting

Children find it easy to learn how to scoot on the Mini Micro because of the tilt and lean style of scooting. A child leans their body in the direction they want to go.
  • Great confidence boosting and co-ordination building skills.
  • Rear brake
  • Soft padded handle grips to give a comfy grip
  • Robust and oodles of fun.

We do believe the Mini Micro scooter is the best scooter for young children in the market. Aside from the technical superiority it is loved by children and parents because it suddenly gives freedom to the whole family. No more buggy tantrums, getting out of the house becomes hassle free and being out of the house becomes fun for everyone.

The Mini Micro scooter is for children who
  • need to improve their balance and co-ordination skills
  • fight about going in the buggy – use the Mini Micro instead!
  • are steady walkers
  • weigh less than 20kgs
  • are eager to get around and are developing a sense of independence
  • have hyper mobility issues. The Mini Micro is a great aid to those children who struggle with movement functions.

The Mini Micro scooter is NOT for children who
  • are nearing their 6th birthday (you would be better off buying a Maxi Micro scooter)
  • are not yet walking

MAXI MICRO SCOOTERS

  • For children aged 5-12 years
  • Has an adjustable handlebar – meaning you can adjust the height of the handle allowing the scooter to grow with your child.
  • Has 3 puncture free wheels to aid balance and co-ordination
  • Has a strong, tough rear brake (some scooters don’t have a brake at all).
  • Steers with the same tilt and lean style as the Mini Micro scooter.
  • Has a robust, durable frame making it a resilient and therefore a long lasting scooter.

The Maxi Micro is for children who
  • Have outgrown or are about to outgrow their Mini Micro scooter (around the age of 5)
  • Is recommended for children who enjoy the tilt and lean style of scooting
  • Weigh less than 50kgs
  • Who are new to scooting and would benefit from the confidence a three wheeled scooter provides.

The Maxi Micro scooter is NOT for children who
  • Weigh more than 50kgs (that includes mum/dad wanting to “give it a go”)
  • Who are younger than 3 or 4. The Maxi Micro scooter is a heavier scooter than a Mini Micro. Younger children simply will be unable to manage its weight and size.

2. BALANCE BIKE OR MICRO SCOOTER?

Are you struggling to choose between a balance bike or scooter for your child?

BALANCE BIKES

Balance bikes are a fantastic way to teach young children balance and co-ordination skills. Mastering a balance bike, in our experience, often sees children make the transition to a “grown up” bike much quicker and easier.
Children sit on a balance bike with their feet touching the ground and move along. With no pedals, heavy chains, stabilizers or mechanical insides balance bikes are often lighter and easier to maneuver then traditional bicycles.

Micro balance bikes
  • Weigh less than half as much than other balance bikes making it easy to carry and transport.
  • Have an easy to adjust seat height making the bike perfect for use between siblings.
  • Have puncture and mark free wheels allowing the balance bike to be used indoor and out.
  • Are excellent learning tools allowing your child to build their co-ordination and balance skills making the transition easier to a more grown up bicycle?
  • Are available in 5 fun colors.

The pros of a balance bike vs a scooter
  • make the move up to a big bike easier and quicker
  • children can keep both feet on the ground if they wish
  • something very special about a “first bike” for your child

The cons of a balance bike vs a scooter
  • cumbersome to store as they do not fold/pack away
  • no brake on a balance bike
  • limited life – children will grow out of a balance bike at around 5 years of age

SCOOTERS

Like Balance Bikes, scooters are brilliant way of building a child’s balance, co-ordination and fine motor skills. They are easy to store and pack away and are lightweight enough to bring out for everyday use.
Scooters give children the freedom to move around and are a great way for small children to make the steps from buggy to first scoots of freedom.

Micro Scooters
  • We invented the micro scooter. All our years of know-how, Swiss quality, Swiss design and Swiss engineering go into every single Micro scooter we produce.
  • Are available for children from aged 1 to adult
  • Are built with the best quality parts; from flexible wood and fiber glass decks to non-toxic handle grips, substantial rear brakes all the way down to the nuts and bolts holding the scooter together. Micro scooters are renowned for their durability and build quality – we simply do not skimp on parts and engineering.
  • Will be a long lasting, value for money toy that will be used every day.

The pros of a scooter vs a balance bike
  • Foldable, removable parts making storage or transportation easier.
  • Can be used as part of every day trips out
  • Smaller and less cumbersome

The cons of a scooter vs a balance bike
  • Children can keep two feet on the ground with a balance bike – with a scooter it is true that one foot stays on the footplate/deck and the other foot pushes you along.

3. CHILDREN SCOOTERS. WHICH SHOULD I BUY?

MICRO BALANCE BIKE

A balance bike is a wonderful way to get children riding a bike earlier. With no stabilizers or pedals the Micro balance bike is lightweight (half the weight of some others in fact) and has adjustable handlebars and seat

MINI2GO

The astounding Mini2Go scooter features everything you love about the Mini Micro but with a couple of innovative extras. Your child can scoot standing or sitting on this incredible model, suitable for children age 18 months to 5 years.

MINI MICRO

The perfect pre- school scooter, designed for 3 to 5 years olds with 3 wheels to give them the confidence to start scooting. Its lightweight frame gives them independence as they can drag it, push it and carry it up and over kerbs.

MAXI MICRO

The perfect scooter for school-aged children, as its robust and sturdy frame is designed for 6 to 12 year olds. Like the Mini Micro it has 3 wheels for children to feel confident and balanced whilst scooting. The adjustable handlebar means it can grow as your child does.

MICRO SPRITE

This scooter is perfect for beginners to 2 wheeled scooting. Its lightweight frame (compared to other metal scooters) is easier for children to manage. It has an adjustable handlebar height allowing for a growing child and is foldable for easy storage.

ADULT SCOOTERS

Buying an adult scooter for yourself or your other half this year will be a fun and practical present. You can use an adult scooter to scoot with the children on the school run, as part of your journey to work (perhaps to the station and back) or for emergency trips to the shops.

4. 2 or 3 wheeled scooter?

There are a few key areas of difference between 2 and 3 wheeled scooters.

STABILITY
  • 3 wheeled scooters are excellent for children who need the confidence in feeling balanced and stable on a scooter.  A scooter with 3 wheels does this job incredibly well because they stand up on their own.
  • 2 wheeled scooters work best for children who are able to balance on the base (often called the footplate or deck) of the scooter. Children who no longer need stabilizers on their bike often prefer 2 wheeled scooters.

TURNING
  • 3 wheeled scooters use tilt and lean steering. This means children lean in the direction they want to go and the wheels then turn.  If your child loves the Mini Micro, then the Maxi Micro steers in the same way and is the grown up version of the Mini Micro.
  • 2 wheeled scooters steer like a bike, so you turn the handlebars (forward/backwards). If your child is used to this way of steering (and is confident on their bike) then 2 wheels would be suitable.

We have both 2 wheeled and 3 wheeled scooters in our Micro range.
